Howard Weinstein

Howard Weinstein’s professional writing career launched at age 19 when he sold “The Pirates of Orion” script to NBC-TV’s Emmy-winning animated Star Trek series in 1974. All these years later, that career is lurching in some unexpected new directions, including internet-based e-publishing. Along with many other veteran writers at career crossroads, Howard thinks web-based publishing could be the creative wave of the future – or possibly the Fifth Horseperson of the Apocalypse!

Howard’s most recent Star Trek story is The Blood-Dimmed Tide, part of the giant 2009 Star Trek: Mere Anarchy trade paperback, which collected six short novels into one epic tale spanning 30 years of Star Trek: The Original Series history.

Over the four decades since his animated Star Trek episode, Howard’s varied credits include six Star Trek novels, three V novels, Star Trek anthology short stories and 65 Trek comics and graphic novels. Other books include an updated 2008 edition of Puppy Kisses Are Good for the Soul, his heart-warming account of life with his wonderful Welsh Corgi, Mail Order Annie; and a biography of New York Yankees star Mickey Mantle, another true labor of love for this lifelong baseball fan. He’s written articles, columns and reviews for magazines and newspapers including The New York Times, Newsday, Star Trek Magazine, Starlog, Scale Auto and Model Cars Magazine. At the moment, he’s hoping a movie script called Grace Notes may eventually get produced by Cold Spark Films, a small independent producer based in Virginia. Howard made his first guest appearance at a Star Trek Convention in 1976, and has been speaking at cons and teaching writing workshops ever since.

He started Day-One Dog Training (www.dayonedogtraining.com) in 1998, using Annie’s valuable lessons to help dogs and humans have the best possible life together. You can find his blog at puppykissesblog.livejournal.com.
